Prism CEO aspires to help overcome bias in light of her own journey

Business Day recently interviewed Prism Investment Holdings’ CEO, Sindi Mbulawa. Below is a summary of the original article.

According to Sindi Mbulawa, the CEO of Prism Investment Holdings, attaining gender equality and diversity in industries with a male preponderance is not only necessary – but can also pave the way to success.

As a Metallurgical Engineering Graduate, Mbulawa launched her career at one of the top gold producers in South Africa. During her time in the energy, mining, infrastructure, and investment banking sectors, she advanced through the ranks with grit, determination, and hard work, and demonstrated the value of diversity and inclusion required for businesses to thrive.

It was no easy feat in these male-dominated environments: She recalls particularly unfair comments that were made in jest, but that undermined her contribution and competence. So, Mbulawa truly understands what a lot of women in her field have gone through and appreciates to see that people are becoming more aware of their prejudices.

In 2020, Mbulawa co-founded Prism Investment Holdings, a financial advisory services company specialising in mergers and aquisisitons and capital raising and structuring across Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, they are particularly focused on helping clients achieve the balance between decarbonisation commitments and energy security.

Outside of her work, Mbulawa is passionate about mentoring and motivating younger women to seize their places in the industry and overcome adversity.
